Cancer treatment

New Treatment Methods

The treatment of cancer evolves constantly. It is likely that the use of cancer drugs will increase and become more diversified in the next few years as the research discovers new areas of use. At this time, the use of immunotherapy for cancer is very actively researched. There are already different antibodies in use, and the first cancer vaccinations are far along in the clinical studies.

New cancer drugs based on nanotechnology are in the future gravitating to the cancer cells more accurately, and cancer can thus be controlled better than before. With the new treatments, cancer does not have to shorten the life expectancy, even if it cannot be completely eradicated.

Nuclear medicine will provide new study and treatment methods in the very near future. The medications that gravitate the cancer cells could be marked radioactive, so the cancer cells could be more accurately imaged with PET-CT and SPECT-CT studies.

Radioactive drugs may be used for therapy as well as for diagnostics, when they gravitate near the cancer cells and are radiating at a short range.

Docrates Clinic has conducted translational cancer research since 2007, when the administration of the oncolytic virotherapies was started. The treatment is experimental so far, but there are great expectations in particularly related to such cancers that have responded poorly to conventional treatment methods. Oncolytic viruses may provide a completely new treatment strategy in the future.
