Docrates Cancer Center joined forces with Medanta, a pioneer in healthcare workwear, to create a more functional workwear collection for its personnel. The goal of the cooperation was to improve work satisfaction with the help of comfortable and functional working clothes. At the same time, the antimicrobial fabric of the clothes repels impurities, therefore increasing patient safety.

Listening to the personnel

The development of the new Docrates workwear collection was focused on the personnel’s comfort at work as well as a reliable, calming hospital environment for the patients.

– It is essential that the clothes are well suited for patient work, are the right size and make the wearer feel confident. This is also important when meeting patients, says Heli Littunen, Director of Services at Docrates.

The personnel was involved in several stages of the planning process. A survey on workwear revealed that clothes play an important role in the work. They affect not only comfort, but also work performance. The new workwear collection was intended to correct the problems with the previous workwear and to offer suitable alternatives for both men and women in accordance with their roles and preferences.

“The material of the garment must be breathable, anti-static and comfortable on the skin. A good fit is important so that the clothes don’t just hang on their wearer.”

Employees were allowed to choose their favourites and test out the options in the collection. The involvement of the personnel ensured that the clothes were well received and that they meet the special needs of the hospital staff. The main color of the company’s visual look is dark blue, which also works well as the main color of the workwear due to its calming properties that promote a sense of ease and trust.

Individuality and sustainability taken into account

Docrates’ workwear collection includes several different garments that are easy to mix and match. The options include everything from clothes designed for operating room conditions to dresses and unisex hoodies. The collection is well-fitting and flattering for different body types. Special attention has been paid to the care of the garments.

– The new Docrates wardrobe makes it easy for the personnel to choose the right clothes for the day’s work, says Heli Littunen.

“The coat or shirt must have enough pockets. Comfortable, suitably warm clothes make work more comfortable. Stylish, lint-free and well-fitting workwear is an integral part of the image.”

The garments are chipped, making it easy to track their lifecycle, number of washes and durability. The clothes can last up to several years, which also supports sustainability.

Innovative fabric choices

The new workwear collection was implemented with Medanta’s innovative fabrics. The Medanta Micro 4-way and Medanta Micro Flex fabrics used in Docrates’ workwear are antimicrobial, lightweight and breathable.

– We designed the material to repel impurities, which guarantees the safety of both the personnel and the patients. The materials also include features familiar from sportswear that make the clothes functional and comfortable – without compromising on aesthetics. The latest Finnish Independence Day Reception featured a formal dress made of the same fabric, says Leena Ukko, Marketing Manager at Medanta.

The cooperation between Docrates and Medanta extends beyond workwear. The patient wear and bed linen are also designed to be comfortable, harmonious and soothing.

Prioritising comfort, functionality and aesthetics has helped create a workwear and hospital textiles range for Docrates that not only meets the practical and sustainability-related requirements of healthcare professionals but also has a positive impact on their work experience, patient safety and the hospital environment as a whole.
