In order to protect the health and safety of our patients and offer the best possible care also during a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have already introduced extensive measures to secure patient safety.

Therefore, we clarify who has been in contact with our patients, who has escorted the patient and other visitors to a coronavirus epidemic areas as well as any possible symptoms of infection.

This means, in practice, that when you schedule an appointment with Docrates, our appointment team will ask you questions to clarify whether you or anyone close to you has travelled to an epidemic area within 14 days or has symptoms of infection. We will ask the same questions from anyone who may have escorted you and everyone else arriving at the hospital. We will ask these questions again in writing when you arrive at Docrates for the appointment.

At Docrates Cancer Center, there have been no diagnosed cases of coronavirus. Our staff has been trained to detect and manage infectious diseases.

Docrates’ visitor policy during the coronavirus epidemic

In order to protect the health and safety of our patients and offer the best possible care also during a coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak, we have also updated our visitor policy as a precautionary measure as follows:

  • We will limit the number of people close to patient when they arrive to one
  • If the initial questionnaire reveals that the visitor (patient, family, friend or other visitor) has flu symptoms (read more below), we cannot let this person enter Docrates’ facilities
  • All visitors will be asked the following questions:
    • Have you or anyone close to you travelled in an epidemic area within the last 14 days?
    • Do you have any virus infection-related symptoms?
    • Have you been in close contact with a person diagnosed with the coronavirus infection?

Coronavirus infection can be prevented with good hand hygiene

People diagnosed with cancer often have weakened immunity. This means that the body has limited capabilities to fight against diseases. Therefore, it is important that people diagnosed with cancer and those close to them also follow the general protective measures, such as and especially good hand hygiene and hygienic coughing/sneezing.

Since the beginning of the epidemic, we have paid special attention to good cleaning and hygiene according to the National Institute for Health and Welfare’s instructions. We have also agreed that, for the time being, we will not shake hands at Docrates, but we will use other friendly ways of greeting our patients and other visitors.

If you have concerns

If you are Docrates’ patient and are worried about the coronavirus, you can discuss your concerns at the doctor’s appointment. It is important that examinations and treatments according your treatment plan continue. You can also contact our nurses by calling (Mon-Thu 8 am-6 pm, Fri 8 am-4 pm, Finnish time GMT +2).

Oncologist’s remote online appointments

It is also possible to arrange an oncologist’s appointment through an online connection. If you want to book a online appointment, please call our Appointments number +358 10 773 2000. Remote appointments are provided by phone.

We take the safety of our patients, those close to them and personnel seriously. Therefore, we thank you for your understanding and cooperation with our new practices. We will update our practices, when necessary.

Best regards,
