Magnetic resonance imaging can be utilized within cancer diagnostics and also in follow-up of cancer treatment results and if local reocurrance is suspected. Then magnetic resonance imaging is complementing other imaging or can verify local and spread metastases.
Magnetic resonance imaging can be used in many gynaecological areas due to its good detection of different soft tissues. With magnetic resonance imaging it is possible to detect deviant tissues for example in cervical and uterus cancer and also in cancer in vagina and genitals. With magnetic resonance imaging of ovaries for example benign changes from malign ones can be spotted. Also more precise timing of contrast agent is aiming at more exact definition of abnormal changes.
Magnetic resonance imaging is especially used in benign changes in endometeriosis as the deep metastases may be detected only with magnetic resonance imaging.
At Docrates Cancer Center we have expertise within imaging treatments of gynaecological cancers. Our radiology specialist Johanna Virtanen is an expert of gynaecological cancer imaging among others.
At Docrates, MRI scans are performed using the newest three-tesla scanner by Siemens, Magnetom Vida 3T. It produces scans using a three-tesla magnetic field. This enables us to make even more specific diagnoses, and as a result, create better and more individually tailored treatment plans.
